So I only consume maybe 1000 calories a day. I drink a glass of milk, 8oz cup of black coffee and whatever food I have (very small portion). Also I drink lots and lots of water. Is it normal for a 17 year old male to suddenly stop getting hungry and lose 40 pounds in 30 days? Rapid weight loss can be damaging to your health and might show up at some later time, if it hasn't already. I don't know your height but I'm guessing that you were overweight at 200 pounds. Are you still overweight? Are you taking drugs for some medical condition? Something must have changed that caused you to lose your appetite. I would see a doctor. 12-27-2008, 08:56 AM # 4 Well now I am at 160. I just started working out because I seemed to have lost a lot of muscle -_-. Still not getting hungry, but I am not dead yet so I guess it's ok. 12-27-2008, 11:13 AM # 5 janewhite1 Senior Veteran (female) Re: Not hungry anymore and losing weight rapidly I do not recommend exercising if you are still not eating much. It's not safe, and you'll just lose weight faster. If your appetite comes back, certainly exercise.

Losing weight does not have to equal feeling hungry all the time. Low calorie, fad diets that have been popular weight loss methods portray weight loss as something you get from totally depriving your body. Being hungry all the time may work for the short term, but long term results usually require weight loss tactics that are more balanced. Also, for some people, feeling hungry all the time could lead to excess food intake afterwards. Instead of trying a weight loss diet that severely restricts your food intake, follow these steps for healthy, long term weight loss. Why constantly being hungry may not work It sounds good in theory: drastically cut your calories so you can start losing weight as fast as possible. Sometimes this works, and even if it does, there will be a plateau effect because your metabolic rate will slow down to compensate for the lowered calories. Water weight and muscle loss are usually the first things to be lost when someone drastically cuts their calories. The constant feeling of hunger could lead to excess food intake when you eat, which can work against weight loss.
